Caravan of Champions

In August 1972, actress Jane Fonda traveled to North Vietnam on a propaganda junket while our troops were fighting in South Vietnam. Making a radio speech in which she called the US "imperialists" was only one activity she engaged in. Fonda also reclined in an NVA anti-aircraft gun cockpit and had many photos taken of her there. This image, more than any other, personifies Jane Fonda for Vietnam Veterans. Accused by them of treasonous activities, Fonda has been reviled by many for years. A half-hearted, insincere apology given years later was considered by most too little, too late.

Because of her notorious reputation, Jane Fonda had stayed out of recent "anti-war" activities, knowing that her presence would be controversial. But recently the "anti-war" icon "re-activated." On January 17, 2007, she attended a "peace" rally of several thousand in Washington DC, where activists sprayed paint on the Capital Building steps. Police were ordered to allow them to mark their anti-American slogans, although they clearly didn't want to and could have prevented it.

The next "anti-war" rally in Washington DC is scheduled for March 17, 2007 near the Vietnam Wall memorial. Concerned about radicals spray painting or otherwise desecrating the memorial, veterans and patriotic groups have established their own rally between the Vietnam Wall memorial and the left-wing protest. Calling themselves the "Gathering of Eagles," the rally has taken hold across the country as patriotic citizens ready themselves to stand up for America.

In response, the Communist front group A.N.S.W.E.R, who is sponsoring the protest, denied that they would have desecrated the memorial. However, a new column by Melanie Morgan of MoveAmericanForward.org details many instances of desecrated war memorials! Indianapolis, Boise, South Connellsville and Chicago are named in particular for recent spray paintings, smashed light fixtures and flag desecrations.

MoveAmericaForward.org (MAF) is a non-partisan, not-for-profit charitable organization committed to supporting America’s efforts to defeat terrorism and supporting the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. Melanie Morgan is the Chairman of the patriotic MAF and has spearheaded many troop support efforts in the past. Recently MAF sponsored a trip to Iraq for parents of fallen soldiers. They also produce patriotic advertisements to counter media bias and politicians who don't support the troops.

MoveAmericaForward.org is also proudly partnered with the Gathering of Eagles and will sponsor a caravan across the country to Washington DC. Stopping in many cities to allow more attendees to join, the group will travel under the name "These Colors Don't Run." They will also pick up many donated flags to create "Flag City" in Washington DC. The sight of so many American flags, undesecrated by peace signs or other left wing symbols, is sure to cause much consternation among the liberals.

Last year in Tucson, the annual protest gathered two hundred radicals to our one hundred Pro-Americans, each on one side of the street. When it was pointed out that the liberal side contained not a single undesecrated right side up American flag while ours was covered in them, a chagrined liberal asked to borrow one of our flags. We allowed him to use a large flag since we believed he really wanted his side to have one, and while he was there it was their only regular American flag. Later, he returned it undamaged. But that guy was the exception to the rule.

The only other place American flags usually appear at "peace" rallies are on top of theatrical fake coffins. How can a movement claiming to support the troops display flag draped "coffins" at entrances to military bases, hospitals and recruitment centers while retaining credibility? Frankly, they don't really have much among informed people.

The purpose of "anti-war" groups is not to stop war. It's not to bring peace. While many dupes may attend and believe this to be their cause, the leaders have a particular purpose in mind. It is to demoralize the troops and our country. They also seek to damage recruitment levels of the military. With massive mainstream news media support, the evil endeavor has had some success. But the courageous efforts of Free Republic, Rolling Thunder, DiscoverTheNetwork.com, MoveAmericaForward.org and other patriotic organizations continue to expose their agenda.

Frankly, it's not hard to figure out. The signs are obvious to everyone except most newspaper and television news station reporters. When Code Pink sends a delegation to Venezuela to visit Hugo Chavez and praise his country, we know they support Communism. When Jane Fonda says "If you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would some day become communist," we know that she supports Communism. When tables of Communist pamphlets and books are set out at major "anti-war" rallies, we know the leaders support Communism. But that political philosophy is diametrically opposed to the American way of life.

Yes, radical left-wing activists have free speech to spout their lies about the Iraqi war. They can gather and posture and spit on wounded troops. This is America. They have every right. But so do you. Will you help by donating to These Colors Don't Run or the Gathering of Eagles? Would you consider joining them and traveling to Washington DC to stand for our troops and their mission of freedom? How about joining or starting a matching Pro-Troops and their Mission rally in your own hometown on the same day?

Our troops work so hard for us. They have far more success in their operations than they get credit for. While they are not out there for credit, how about we give some to them anyway? At the Gathering of Eagles website, a soldier from Afghanistan left a message that the troops will be watching. So will the terrorists, Communists and politicians. Let's show them we care by showing up - and standing up - for America!
