Propaganda Plague

In the days of the Soviet Union it was always fun in a tragic sort of way to see the newspaper Pravda (The Truth) announce industrial production figures or economics containing many facts and figures of how they exceeded expectations. Of course, the "facts" and "figures" were all made up. The Soviet government had to constantly convince their own people of how well they had done. Since the authorities had control of the newspapers, magazine, radio and TV news, it was relatively easy to distribute the propaganda. The sheep-like Communist population received their "news" in stoic silence. Some believed while others never did.

Our President must also convince the American people of his thinking in economics, border issues, right to life and the war, to name a few issues. But he doesn't have control of mainstream news media like the Soviet Chairman did. In fact, liberal news editors and reporters constantly slant stories, omit facts and even engage in fraud to advance their own agenda and work against conservatives. "Conservative" news media like Fox News and WorldNetDaily are constrained by their attempts to be honest and report both sides equally. We see no fraud there, although liberals expect it in return and often level baseless accusations to offset legitimate complaints against them. Liberals name WND and Fox News "conservative" (they don't consider themselves that) but one must realize there is a lot of dirt available to expose on the left side. Decades of one-sided reporting severely diminished the corruption of Republicans while letting Democrats run free. (Thanks for that, anyway liberal news media. No, really!)

Freedom of speech in America took a left turn in the latter half of the 20th Century. The three major television news networks combined with local newspapers and national magazines to clamp a stranglehold on exposés of liberal corruption and fraud. Hollywood joined in with a slew of movies featuring evil capitalist corporations and heroic proletariat type heroes who triumphed against them, with a heavy portion of pornography thrown in to attract people to the repetitive propaganda. It wasn't until talk radio and the internet came along that real freedom of speech in America began to break out again.

Now when liberal hoaxes occur they are almost instantly found out. One glaring example is fake accusations of American military misbehavior during wartime. In the Vietnam War John Kerry gathered some actual and many fake veterans together for some war protests. In the "Winter Soldier" propaganda event, real and unreal soldiers "testified" to atrocities and unprofessional acts by serving troops in authority overseas. Kerry took those stories to Congress, lying under oath to relay them as fact. One true combat veteran who testified, going through a rough time in his young life at that time, recently admitted he was taken advantage of by savvy left wing propagandists and railroaded into describing things that did not happen. And when the US Military investigated, they found no basis to the stories and that many Winter Soldier "veterans" either did not serve in Vietnam or never even joined the military.

Thanks to little or no investigation by journalists, even conservatives who debated Kerry on the matter did not realize how far the deception went in the "Winter Soldier" fraud. Everyone assumed the many "veterans" marching through the streets in that event were significant. This was a bold bit of deception on the left. Apparently the plan was to put a few real veterans in and raid military surplus stores for old uniforms so fake veterans could bulk out the march. Some even unknowingly used WWII and Civil War uniforms! At the end of the march counterfeit combat veterans threw medals purchased from surplus military stores over the White House fence, pretending to "return" them. One would think liberals would hang their head in shame after all this came out but they don't.

When the now Honorable Senator John Kerry campaigned for US President, the whole deception came to light, further disgracing the '60s radical who had lied before Congress. And while some Democrats and liberals were surely disgusted, others saw a blueprint for success that could be repeated. It worked before, so why not again? However, the times they really are a changin'! It's not so easy to pull the wool over people's eyes. Since the Iraq war began, we have been presented with one fraud after another in the vein of "Winter Soldier." Each time the hoaxer was eventually exposed. But shameless liberals never quit.

A new liar has been recently revealed; Private Scott Thomas Beauchamp apparently joined the military with the intent to use his experiences for writing. And there is nothing wrong with that as long as proper protocols are used. But this liberal writer was taken advantage of by The New Republic magazine who allowed him to illegally author anonymous articles. He soon spewed out a series of fake tales that claimed misconduct by our troops in the Iraq war. Veterans instantly spotted an obvious lie: It's physically impossible for tracked Bradley vehicles to "swerve" and run over dogs, (dogs move faster than that) and even if they could, no officer or NCO would allow this sort of thing to happen since the Bradley might hit an IED. Not to mention common sense dictates the many soldiers who love dogs would object!

The anonymity faded away quickly and Beauchamp's identity was soon exposed. Armed Forces investigations quickly debunked the wild tales. The New Republic is in no trouble except for their credibility, which was dubious anyway. But Private Beauchamp is now facing military justice for his activities. Military personnel cannot write about their official actions on behalf of the USA without approval from those in command over them. Hiding under a fake name and lying makes it worse. At least the young, naïve Private did not say whole villages were razed like John Kerry did before Congress.

In a separate event, a New York Times blog posted a recent entry that is shocking at the least, treason at the worst. Incredibly, the opinion piece solicited ideas for ways terrorists could attack America, supposedly to help "folks who oppose and fight terror." Well, that's a poor excuse. Had this been a real reason, the blogger could have looked up some Homeland Security email addresses and asked readers to send the suggestions there. Asking them to post such ideas in a major newspaper blog is incredible. Even more incredible is that the Times has allowed the blog post to stay up with all the resultant comments.

Left wing liars and anti-Americans are not going away no matter how often the truth comes out about them. But let's all be aware and take heed of what is going on so we can hold them accountable in the great culture debate taking place in this country. When you hear from liberal news media of an atrocity or evil supposedly done by America you can instantly discount it. If it is recent, it will have obvious flaws and soon be debunked. If it is old, it has already been so. Don't let liberals get away with wild war stories. When you hear them, respond that it's probably a hoax like all the others and stand up for the troops - and America!
