DC Deceivers Deliver Droll Die-in

by Wayne Boettcher

As September 11, 2007 approached, many took time to remember the horrendous attack on America that took place 6 years ago. For some, it was a time of reflection, for others, a time of action. Many partisan forces were building towards the following weekend as Washington DC geared up for protests and street demonstrations, with the propaganda machines of the left being polished by the rags of liberal news media.

Political upheaval was also triggered by the imminent arrival of General Petraeus to Congress, with a report on progress in Iraq. Those of us who regularly read American Forces Press Service News Articles already know what's going on in Iraq, but many clueless news reporters and politicians were breathlessly awaiting the report. The General explained how the surge was working and progress was being made, but more work was needed. This was what most people in the know expected.

For anxious liberals advocating US surrender, however, this was a terrible time. The George Soros-funded left wing activist group MoveOn.org, anticipating a good account of troop success, placed an advertisement in the New York Times calling the General a traitor before he even spoke to Congress. President Bush reacted by correctly stating this was an attack on all the military. The Senate voted to condemn the spurious assault ad (except for 25 Democrats voting no.) The NY Times' full-page ad price is about $167,000 for a political ad on a certain day and about $65,000 for a "standby" ad with no day guaranteed. MoveOn.org paid $65,000 but the Times placed the ad on the exact day Petraeus spoke, causing many to say it was a discount due to liberal news media bias.

Meanwhile, the Fight For Victory Tour of MoveAmericaForward.org continued across America, arriving in Washington DC on Friday, September 14th to give cards and letters to wounded troops at Walter Reed Hospital. After a fulfilling visit they joined FreeRepublic.com on Friday night outside the hospital gates to bring the number of troop supporters to over 150. It was therefore easy to counter 12 "anti-war" advocates down the street protesting the wounded. Though they have been shamed into eschewing flag draped coffins outside the hospital, everyone (including most patients at the hospital) knows the protesting group Code Pink's true purpose.

As Saturday approached in the nation's capital, International ANSWER, a front group for the Marxist-Leninist Workers World Party, was promoting a big "anti-war" march and protest. In response, GatheringofEagles.org called for a Pro-Troop rally, joining with MoveAmericaForward.org, VetsForFreedom.org, ProtestWarrior.org, MichelleMalkin.com, FreeRepublic.com and patriotic groups and citizens to show the troops America doesn't listen to wacky protesters and socialists. Saturday was indeed an interesting day.

Before the march some desultory speeches by left-wing activists were given at Lafayette Park. The predictable return of Cindy Sheehan was punctuated by a shrill diatribe full of aimless statements like "If we don't want to become like Nazi Germany, and you know, these people want us to become like Nazi Germany, it's time for us to stand up and lay down, and it's time for us to do civil disobedience on a massive scale." However, the massive numbers of liberals seen at past protests were not available this day.

When it was time to march, ANSWER couldn't get the parade started on time due to massive confusion in the ranks. Though they later claimed subway problems, others in the area said the subway was running fine. When they finally did begin marching, a contingent of Eagles strode in front of them with a giant banner proclaiming "Warning: Leftist Protesters Trying To Demoralize Our Troops" on the front and "Complete The Mission First And Then They'll Come Home" on the back. "Safe Since 9/11" read another poster appending the patriotic protester parade prelude which also included several American flags.

Along the march the disorganized moonbats had to go past three blocks of flag waving pro-Americans and veterans which included a man with a bullhorn singing "All we are saying, is give soap a chance." Signs such as "Liberals Want Us To Lose In Iraq" and "Peace Through Strength" abounded. Outraged peace advocates caused a few scenes but DC police kept things in order for the most part. A serving soldier standing with Gathering of Eagles had to be restrained by his relatives when the "anti-war" activist's fake flag draped coffin was paraded past; he could not believe the disrespect of the shameless protesters.

At the end of the march it was time for a "die-in," a theater production consisting of liberals falling to the ground as they dramatically pretend to be killed by capitalist, imperialist warmongers. When this did not seem to have much effect on the nearby police officers, over a hundred protesters tumbled over a small barricade so they could be arrested. ANSWER later claimed 100,000 protest attendees, however, once again the facts did not bear them out. Credible estimates of the protester population size ranged from 3,000 to 8,000, while those supporting the troops and their mission were noted as having somewhere between 1,000 and 3,000 rallying for America.

Meanwhile, Coalition Forces continue to target al Qaeda leaders in Iraq. The troops have been very successful to date. In fact, today Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell told reporters that total attacks have declined in 10 of the past 13 weeks to the lowest levels since February 2006 when the Golden Mosque in Samarra was bombed. In addition, power output in the region has hit record highs, even for peak periods during Saddam Hussein’s reign.

Left wing propaganda protesters are becoming more marginalized thanks to patriotic Americans willing to stand up to their bullying tactics. But liberal news media are still engaged in a massive news blackout of good news about the War on Terror. We must continue to oppose protesters while renewing our letters to the editors of newspapers and TV stations. When you read some good news about our forces in Iraq at the American Forces Press Service News Articles website, be sure and print it and give it to a friend. Call in the news to a radio show or write a letter about it to the newspaper. Let's stand up for our troops on the home front as we all stand up for Liberty - and America!
